Postpartum dermatology screening

During pregnancy, moles can grow due to hormonal changes, new moles can grow, and fibromas (connective tissue growths) may appear.

Postpartum dermatology screening

It doesn’t make sense to have these removed during pregnancy, because up through the end of the pregnancy new ones can appear and existing ones can darken and grow larger. If they are esthetically bothersome or are located in a problematic place, it’s a good idea to turn to a dermatologist after finishing breastfeeding in order to have them removed.

Even during pregnancy and breastfeeding, don’t leave out the annual melanoma screening, and even then you should definitely turn to a dermatologist if you notice any of the warning signs with a mole: asymmetry, irregular edges, several colors, or inflamed surrounding area.
