Periodontology treatment

Background to periodontal disease

The main cause of periodontal disease (periodontitis) is bacterial plaque that accumulates on the surface of the teeth and between the gums, causing an infection that damages the gums and bone tissue. Without treatment, this can cause teeth to become loose, and may eventually lead to the loss of your teeth. Symptoms of periodontal disease include red, inflamed or sensitive gums, spontaneous bleeding of the gums, an unpleasant taste in the mouth, bad breath and sensitive teeth.

The most common causes of periodontal disease are plaque, tartar and smoking. The best way to prevent its development is to make sure you have good oral hygiene. Diabetes, stress, osteoporosis or an unbalanced diet can also be contributing and aggravating factors.

Pain-free treatment

The RMC dental team is on hand to help our patients in the treatment of existing periodontal disease. RMC dentist Dr Claudia Paár begins periodontal treatment by identifying its triggers and establishing a diagnosis. This is followed by the removal of tartar and plaque and curettage (deep cleansing), as well as the determination of any other necessary treatments and medication. Treatment is painless, and can be carried out under local anesthetic with the help of cutting-edge technology. After receiving treatment, however, it is essential to establish regular follow-up treatments to ensure that you do not experience further inflammation.

We believe that good teamwork is vital for the effective treatment of periodontal disease: successful treatment depends not only on the dentist, but also on the level of dental hygiene practiced at home by the patient. With this in mind, we always try to provide our patients with all the tools and advice that they need.
